Exclamation tire misbalance, help!

During one snowy morning i slid through an intersection and bumped a curb and put a small 2" dent along the outside of my rim. When I drove home i felt a vibration being transmitted through the steering wheel when driving above 45 mph. At home, i switched the damaged front tire w/the back one and the vibration in the steering wheel went away (not tie rod...whew!).

The next day I took the car to a belle tire and they said i needed a new rim b/c they couldn't balance out the tire. they're in the business of selling tires, so i thought they were jerking me around cause they also couldn't do an oil change. it was close to closing time and i just thought they were lazy. the next day, I went to a discount tire and as they were taking the wheel off to balance it, I noticed that belle tire actually pounded out the dent and tried to balance the tire (which i originally thought they didn't even look at it and just told me i needed a new rim). Anyways, at discount, they said they can't balance it out either because the the barrel is slightly out of round (i saw 0.25 on their machine, if that number means anything.) but since i'm not getting a vibration don't worry about it and i should be fine to drive as long as it's in the back.

I'm driving a '98 OB sport w/stock rims and yoko avid-t4's. I'm leaving next week to take a vacation to Utah and from michigan it's 3000+ miles round trip and wanted to make sure it was alright to drive on it.

i can drive 80 mph and not feel any vibrations in the car from the wheel, but wanted to make sure this didn't have any other serious side effects like damaging my transmission because it's AWD?

if this is a minor problem but i still should get it taken care of asap, can i drive 1600 miles and have a shop in salt lake order me a rim and get it installed while i'm out there?

any advice?
thanks!
