should my car sound like this when starting?
I've owned my car for about 3 years now... This is the first time I really heard this sound..
When I start the car when it's somewhat cold out, Like 40F The car starts at the normal speed, Then it goes fast for like 1 Revolution, then it goes back to the normal starting speed... The timimg belt can't skip a tooth on starting can it?

For Me. When its cold outside my RS will do something similar to what you describe. Normal conditions my cars starts up and sits at 1400rpm and slowly winds down to 700ish. On cold starts it will jump to 1400 then rise up a little almost to 2k, may drop under 1400, then settle back to normal.
I think the ecu is compensating for the colder air. |

No i'm not talking about the car running, I'm talking about when the starter is starting the engine.

does the car run ok?
what you are describing does sound like an engine starting that is out of time, or has low compression. It could also be something in the starting system, exccessive current draw by the starter perhaps. Jay |

A few weeks ago it was -9F (-23C) here in Ottawa Canada and you should have heard my car trying to start in that!!!
I believe it is the way the compression start cycle works to tick the engine over when it is cold. As long as it starts, doesn't back fire, doesn't stall, and runs fine once warmed up then, I wouldn't worry about it. |
