Lightbulb 2005 WRX WGN + iPod? (pictures)

Hey All-

New Subaru owner (as of 4/6/05); longtime fan. Looking for a solution to bring my iPod into action with the stock 6-disc changer. Hoping there are others of you out there looking to do the same. If you have, please post your findings, info, and resources here.

I dismantled the console and removed the OEM stereo tonight to see what options were on the back. I took pictures of the entire process and have model # info from the stereo.

HU: Model No. 86201FE210
Ref. No. CQ-EF6360A
Matsu****a Electric Industrial Co., Ltd. (made in Japan)
(Matsusheeta)

There is an 8-pin connector on the back. I would like to post a picture but I don't have access to do that yet. Need to post 10 times or something...

Need to figure out what this 8-pin is capable of. Anybody know? How about any manuals of this model HU from Matsu****a?

I would like to include the step by step process with 19 pictures. Especially the picture of the 8-pin connector. Anybody know how I can get past this 10 times post thing?

Thanks,
Sedeuce

Just post 10 times

J/K

As far as hooking an ipod up - generally that is the easiest to do with an aftermarket deck with a line - in jack on the back.

If you want to keep the stock unit, there are several wiring pin schematics out there. Here is a direct link: http://www.geocities.com/svxdc/WRX-pinout.htm

And here is the thread in which they were discussing this:
http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show...ht=pin+diagram

If you search for "pin diagram" within the car audio sub forum you should get some good results.

And congratulations on the new car!

Here is a similar thread I started about the 2002 which explains the unused connector.

Unfortunately, I can't find the serial protocol for the comm pin so I'm pretty stuck :-(

Edit: Forgot to post the damn link
http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=691652

As you can see, the stock headunit (at least on an '02) DOES have potential for an aux input.

Click the link above for a wide variety of information regarding installing iPods in Subaru's using both aftermarket and OEM decks...

If you have anything you would like to add to the Index, let me know and I am always happy to add things!

Ok, 10 posts are done... Get ready to be bombarded by pictures.

Here is the step by step with pictures. I have 1 important note:
If you do end up removing the shift-knob like I did, put a sock or dish towel over the threaded end of the shifter shaft to prevent possibly scratching any of the nice shiny surfaces of the HU or console bezel pieces! Forunately, mine was very minor.

Started off by removing shift knob - note, you don't actually need to remove the knob from the boot like I did:

Bravo! Nice job on the pictures and write-up.

It is always good to have step by steps like this for people to refer to. Good resolution and good shots of how to take the trim out so you don't scratch it.

So how exactly are you planning on getting an ipod hooked up?
