Liberty 6 cylinder into gc8?
Ok I have searched for info on this everywhere.
Now my plan is to get a 3L 6 cylinder liberty block with the 6 speed drive train and swap it into a GC8 WRX. My question is: Can I add a turbo to this block or would I first have to strengthen the internals... or is it worthless as anything but an NA block? This block is 180kw in the new Libery over here so if it was at all possible to run a resonalbe amount of boost this block would have a lot of potential. Possibly something to compete with the skyline... Any help on this is appreciated. Cheers Matt

did you happen to look a few posts down from yours.... Slack is putting one is his GC, and i am putting one into my legacy and turboing it. so with our powers combined you will prob be able to figure out what you can do
In my opinion you need to strengthen the internals to turbo it, which is what i am doing. its current 10.7:1 compression ratio would make anything other than low boost impossible basically. i will be doing new rods and lower compression pistons, most likely 8.7-9:1. if you wanted to try and turbo the NA block i would guess you could boost about 6psi with a good tune on pump and that would give you about an 80-100hp boost(sorry dont know Kw conversion). I will be going for 500whp daily on pump search under my name in the legacy forum to pull up my thread. also you can read slack's as well. He will prob be your GC resource and i can be your engine info and turbo resource good luck. let me know if you have any questions. Ben |

This is what I will be looking to do pretty much, strengthen the internals so I can run a fair amount of boost. ~15psi. That coupled with the 6spd drivetrain from the sti and a motec ecu I think would make this project very fun! |

sounds like you have a good budget, the motec will be nice and is basically the only stand alone you can use by itself since it can control both the AVCS and AVLS, too spendy for me though so i have to do a combo. running the stand alone will save you a lot of wiring headaches as well, which im sure you already knew
what turbo were you planning on running? what is your power goals? good luck. Ben |

Not sure of the turbo yet.
I was thinking about an APS setup but I havent looked into that side too much yet. My power goal is 400kw, it might be out of reach but I'm using a nicely modded GTR as my ref. Yeah the motec is the best option. I don't have emissions testing but as you said the wiring is going to be a bitch. So cutting that down is the main goal there. The budget will become a problem if I can strengthen the block enough =), simple too many options then. |
