Default On the topic of air boxes...

While I was changing my air filter the other day, I noticed that the dirt was all focused in the center of the filter. I figgered this was due to the plastic air horn mounted on the engine side of the air box.

It seems to me this is effectively reducing the surface area of the filter a bunch, which I would assume leads to faster clogging and harder breathing.

Am I full of crap?

Is this thing removeable?

Has anyone tried to take it out?

Just curious.

my guess would be the intake (carb) is sucking in the most air thus making that the dirtest spot. If you ever removed your silencer and put your hand over the intake intlet hole, you'll notice that it has LOTS of suction. Whenever I get around to changing my fillter I'll see if there is anything to dremel out for more air flow

I tell yah, I was full of crap this morning at work but boy after my trip to the
restroom, I was so relieved. I kinda felt sorry for the next guy that used the stall next to me though. All that enduring he suffered.
