Default Autometer Ultra Lite Boost Gauge reading way off...

I had it installed by my shop today and it's reading 22psi when I'm running wastegate pressure(1 bar). At idle it's reading ~-2 psi. It's almost as though the entire sweep has been offset. The power is grounded right under the clock...and the MAP sensor relies on it's own harness. Any ideas?

...ya got it hooked up wrong....and I don't think you use the stock map sensor....it should come wth it's own sender if you are using an electrical gauge.

...and wasegate pressure isn't usually 1 bar.

Where did they tap the boost line? Not at the wastegate line? It needs to be tapped to the intake manifold side of the throttle body to read right. If you read any vaccum at all though, I'd guess its right.

Try grounding with a ring terminal and a screw to a metal piece of the body, like inside a kick panel. Making components share 16 and 18 awg power and grounds is silly. Tap power from the ignition harness if you have to, and FUSE it.

Make sure the MAP sensor (if it is the autometer one) is mounted the way they say it should be. Some need to be mounted upright to work properly.

The sensor that came with the gauge was the one that was hooked up. My external wastegate has a 1bar spring in it...so yes, wastegate pressure is 1bar.

I went out to the store just now...noticed that it immediately spikes to 10psi around 1500rpm(I wish I could build boost that early =), but I have a GT35R so that's impossible). When I let off full throttle in boost it only drops to ~0 to -2psi.

Is my MAP sensor busted? Does my gauge need to be recalibrated?

They tapped the boost from the manifold on the top right(facing the engine bay) side of the manifold. The MAP sensor isn't mounted upright though! I thought about that but dismissed the idea immediately. I'll check it out. If that doesn't work, I'll try grounding it again using your method.

Thanks for the insight, 2phless. You're always a huge help.

Unfortunately the quality of Autometer gauges is not that good. I have the same gauge as you and had to return it twice to finally get one that worked. The first had symptoms where after 30 minutes or so it would just go lazy and return to zero. The second one acted like yours - it was just off. I purchased through Summit and tried to return but they sent me a third one and it has worked great. (There's a thread very near this one with another bad gauge.) So, make sure you got it all hooked up right, but don't dismiss the fact that you have a bum gauge (or possibly a sending unit).
