Default 6 Passenger Baja idea???

I know this sounds crazy..... and I am not doing it right now..... but what if.....

We have a Outback as the family car (in addition to the Baja), but would like extra seating next time around. I cannot afford the new ugly duckling from Subaru, so my thoughts started wandering......

What if a cap was placed on the back of the Baja, had a rollbar/bracket fabricated to mount in the back so the upper cross support was at the point furthest back for safety and to mount a 3 point seatbelt. Then mount 2 bucket seats in the back and secure them to the bracket/rollbar. Remove the rear window from the car. Beef up the seals around the tailgate and cap window for a tighter fit. Obviously entry would not be ideal as it would be from the back, however the kids could crawl back there on the few occasions that seating for 5 or 6 are needed.

I think it could be done for around $1500 to $2000 dollars above the Baja price.

Then I could get a new Baja to go with the family Baja.

It is not even an option right now, it is just my mind working in strange ways trying to find a less expensive alternative to 6 passenger seating with all wheel drive without going to a minivan or larger SUV.

Yes I know...... to the Baja purist..... why would I want to do this to my Baja?

used to do that with Ford and Chevy pickups, we used old schoolbus seats and bolted two point seatbelts to the bed of the truck. I think it's pretty much illeagle in most of the states now though, you should check your local laws first
