Default What If U......

Ok lets say u have a 2000 RS. U really want a turbo but want to do it right. Out of these choices what whould u do...and if money was not an object.

I polled that I'd get the Sti later.
However if i really wanted to, I'd just get a WRX now. And That's what i'd opt for, because of California emissions and having an engine designed for Turbos makes it "safer."
But mostly a factory turbo is the key because money is always a factor.

Well, I wanted to "do it right", so I bought a new STi V engine to build around. It was just a matter of personal preference really.. and now that I've been gathering parts for a while, sometimes I wish I had just cheaped out and done a turbokit. I mean, to do a motor swap right takes a wheelbarrow full of cash AND patience. But I've come this far, and I'll be damned if I'll give up now.. I'm just hoping that my finished project will be fully capable of humbling the turbokitted masses. And if it's not, then it'll go back under the knife

I'd strengthen that EJ25 as much as possible then run 15-18psi daily and get massive amounts of torque and horsepower.

I would send my engine to Cobb and get them to do a closed deck conversion and in the mean time slap some forged lower compression pistons, a forged crank, and turbo cylinder heads with cams. It would then be off to Ralli Spec for a custom turbo/TEC-II and tranny install.

For what I paid for my Legacy, $16K, it just wouldn't be worth buying a brand new REX at $25K. For the extra $9000 I could easily have the turbo I want built, the TEC-II installed and tuned, and then have the Closed Deck conversion done. I would then run low boost until I have another couple thousand for Heads, Pistons, and Stronger Tranny. I would then be busy for the next couple years saving up for stronger diffs and other driveline components.

Obviously this would be a maximum street performance setup. You could shave of a lot of cost by shaving off a few components that you won't need if you decided to go less power.
