Default A/C fan problem

I just got a 96 Impreza 2.2L. The air conditioning has been working fine until last night. The fan just stopped working. When I have the selector on air conditioner and turn the fan to 'on', I can hear the compressor turning on and a click from the fuse box, but nothing blowing out. I checked all the fuses...is there a relay or something I am missing? The fan doesn't work on any setting (vent/bilevel/defrost) either.

Thanks

there's a motor which runs those fans.

my guess?

switch, relay or the motor just went bad.

I dont think the motor died...every other time it happened in other cars, the fan would make noise or blow some smoke. Where are the relays located? I pulled the ones right above the fuse block under the dash, but they looked fine (dont know how to tell if one is blown). There was a red one that I couldnt get my hand in to reach...could that be it?

Have you tried all the fan speeds? If the fan only works on the highest speed but not on any of the lower ones it indicates a bad blower motor resistor. This should not be an expensive part and is easily replaced.
If the fan doesn't work on any speed, and the fuses are ok (check with a meter, not just visually), check for power at the motor terminals and work back from there.

There should be a fan relay to the left of the fusebox, aluminum housing

Where is the fan motor located? I want to see if power is getting to it and work my way back. Sorry for all the questions...this is my first Subaru (I drive Jeeps usually and just use this for commuting 150 miles a day, so it gets kinda hot with no ac)

well not exactly sure on the wrx, but all the other cars I've ever changed a fan motor in it was under the dash right at the passenger foot well.

ok...i pulled the fan and was able to get it to work while it was out of the housing. It kept slowing and stopping, then restarting...so it looks like its shot. anyone know where to get a replacement? I looked online and saw them for about $120, but would like to see if there is a cheaper place. I'm not gonna even bother calling the stealership.

thanks
