Default 30,000 Mile Maintenance

I’m sure this has been asked and answered here before, but I couldn’t find any thing after a few searches.

I just crossed 30,000mi. Other than bringing it to the dealer and telling them to do a 30,000mi. maintenance, what would you recommend I do/check? If I do bring it to the dealer, is there anything I should highlight to make sure they do?

Thanks,
Scott

Be prepared to shell out some money as the 30k is supposed to be pretty expensive. I will be in the same boat soon. For my own car, I will tell them to check the clutch and brakes because the clutch started feeling soft (could be the 90 degree weather) and my brakes are mushy. They replace all fluids, and inspect pretty much everything else.

www.subaru.com has your maintenance schedules, have someone else do it rather than your dealer as they will rape you will extra crap you don't need. Print out the list from subaru.com and take it to a Firestone or Goodyear dealer or other service station. Have them do what's on the list and nothing more.

If you can do all the fluids and filters yourself, do so. Everything your not comfortable with leave with the dealer. At least you'll save some money.

Speaking on the note if you were to let them do inspections, if you would like to take it to a non-dealer service shop, at least take it to an independant shop with Subaru experience.

heck no it ain't worth it, just do it yourself. It isn't that hard, heck I'm as green a shade as a mechanic as it comes, and even I thought it was easy.

Mine is in the shop right now. Should be getting it back in a couple of hours. I got estimates at other shops but it was almost the same ($50). I'd rather have the dealer do it.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I think I'll probably take it somewhere for everything but the oil, filters, and maybe brake pads. It's not so much an issue of ease of the repairs or my skill, but just time. I know that if I plan to do it myself, it might not get done. And if it does, corners will be cut.

Other than what's listed in the manual, is there anything EXTRA that would be a good idea to have the do/check/replace?

Thanks,
Scott

They wanted $700+ here in Florida for the 30K service. It was the original reason why I got the Subaru credit card. I figured I'd get the service for 'free' with my Suburu bucks...now I have other plans for the suby bucks and I'll just do the 30K myself in about 7K more miles.

If you are going to the stealership at the very least take the maintenance schedule with you. Ask the dealer for their list of work they intend t odo and cross off anything that is not on your maintenance schedule.
