Default Oil Disposal

For those of you who change you own oil... Where do you normally dispose of your used oil and how much do you normally pay for the disposal?

Thanks,

Mark

AutoZone and Pep Boys are free, I know for sure. I don't know about Murrays, Checkers, Advance Auto, Lee Auto, or Napa, though.

I use my county recycling's central location. You drive in, dump your oil, and you're on your way.

I think some WalMarts will take your used oil. Autozone will take it as well. Just finished an oil change today.

burn it in a oil burning garage heater. No smoke, good heat. Aparrently less emissions than other combustion heaters as well.

Thanks for all the responses. I was also told today that even though most oil change places will say "No", they are required by Illinois law to take used oil. Any truth to this idea?

It's supposed to be like that here in California too.

just unloaded 4gal at Pep-boys (no charge) - sometimes they'll take the containers, other times they make you dump it in the drum and take your containers with you (I just use milk jugs)

I always bring my used oil to Jiffy Lube.

Only twice have I had one of the Lubrication Technicians say "No, we don't accept used oil". In both cases I asked to speak with the location manager, and in both cases I was then told "Of course we'll take your oil".

Here in Illinois, you don't have to drive far to find a Jiffy Lube.

I think most places that sell oil have to take used oil, as mentioned above.

Pour it into a plastic jug and put it in the trash. From there I don't care what happens to it.

lol, the post gunshot/knifewound club. I am a nurse on an emergency surgery unit. At least 50-60% of our patients are there due to violent injury. Hence the name.
