May be you know it already. May you don't, but I thought I post it anyway.

Subaru Recalling 1995-1999 Outbacks, Legacies
Subaru is recalling more than 180,000 Outbacks and Legacies from the 1995 through 1999 model years. Only vehicles located in "salt-belt" states are involved, however. The problem involves improperly applied paint on front springs supplied to Subaru by an outside vendor. Prolonged exposure to road salt can cause the springs to corrode and, eventually, to fail. If the broken springs should contact the tires, big problems could arise. Legacy Sedan, Wagon and Outback models from 1995 through 1998 are involved, along with a small number of 1999s. The vehicles being recalled are from Connecticut, Delaware, the District of Columbia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, Virginia, West Virginia and Wisconsin. Owners of affected vehicles are being notified via first-class mail. Subaru says that there have been no accidents or injuries attributed to this problem.

I passed that along to a friend of mine with a 98 Outback. He lives in Washington, but maybe he can get some new springs out of it anyways, since we get plenty of the wet stuff. Either way, better to call the dealer and make sure. Thanks!
