Default PCV valve torque spec -- 2002 WRX?

13 ft-lbs. Hand-tightening it should just about get you between 13-15 ft-lbs.

When is it recommended one changes the PCV valve? I didn't see it in the maintenance schedules online at subaru, or at my stealership

Yeah, it's not in the schedule. 30,000 miles is what I've been seeing on the boards.

I changed mine at 40K and honestly, I shouldn't have. The stock one looked like it was in better condition than the new autozone one that I bought to replace it with and the thing was a PITA to get to.

I hear every 15k miles, but it varies from car to car I suppose.

The golden rule is that if you shake the valve and it still rattles, it's probably good. But while you have the PCV valve out, you might as WELL replace it. It's not like it's an overly expensive little item...

Oh and for some odd reason it's cheaper to buy the PCV valve along with that plastic joint thingy it connects onto. Subaruparts might have the PN number...
