Default 75,000 mile Oil Report (Mobil 1 10W-30)

Thank you Blackstone Laboratories. I recommend this to everyone. I recently pegged my temp gauge and was afraid of a blown head gasket....and this is just some much needed confirmation.

had a coolant hose leak. I started the car cold and got on the fwy before the car was @ operating temp....then the gauge went to the red....good thing there was an exit ASAP, the next one wasnt for 4 miles.

I thought you went 75,000 on the oil.

The oil sheared down to a 20 weight and they're telling you to run it for another 700 miles?

Southern CA. + Turbo + Vishnu + summer = Your car wanting a thicker oil, but that's just me.

Very similar numbers for my 2000 Forester 2.5L with 91,000 miles and a UOA for a 6,000 miles oil change interval. I probably could easly go out to 7,000+miles as blackstone suggested. I use Mobil 1 10w30 and PureOne or OEM oil filters at each oil change. Based on the UOA numbers I figure the engine is good for 300,000 miles regardless of bluesubies comment about viscosity.

Just a wild guess, but Drew's Vishnu'd WRX might shear the oil down just a teeny bit more than your N/A Forester.

It's like running a 20 weight in a Ferrari. Oh wait, there are people that do that.

So, what would you recommend? I was thinking of AMSOIL 10-30 for the next oil change...

I would recommend German Castrol Syntec 0W30. Check out the forums at bobistheoilguy.com (you should post this over there in the UOA forum).

There's a forum just for German Castrol. It will probably stay in grade better than the M1. Amsoil would be a good choice as well, or move up to a 40 weight in the summer if you want to stick with M1.

My $.02.

I reread the first thread and the oil DID NOT shear down to a 20 weight. The viscosity was"mildly low for a 30 weight" So the Mobil 1 was a 30 weight oil at temperature and the UOA was good so why change just to change? Two oil changes to a measured higher viscosity oil and then a UOA to see if a good uoa can be improved upon makes sense I suppose.

It did shear down into a high 20-weight oil:

SUS Viscosity @ 210 degrees F:

Values should be 59-68
Tested values were 57.4

Thank you, drive through. And stop shouting.
Apology accepted.
