Have you tried tightening your fuel cap? Also, do you have an Accessport? Sometimes they show the wrong code #.

I have gotten two different evaporative emissions CEL's a few times. P0443 and P0456 I think off the top of my head (one is "small leak" one is "very small leak"). I bought a OBD scanner from Autozone for $80 and use that. It only reads the code, but came with a pocket reference for all non-OEM specific or generic codes.

If I tighten the cap until it clicks a few times I'll get the CEL. If I go out of my way to push in on the cap and turn extra hard it won't do it. This car just seems to be extra picky. It shouldn't be any real concern, other than for emissions tests and such. You may want to be more concerned if that code is the "large leak" code, though.

There should be a "carbon" box somewhere near the gas tank under the car with a few hoses going to the tank. You might want to check it for damage. If you've replaced a fuel pump you may want to go back and make sure the tank is sealed.

I believe it detects this by a vacuum or positive pressure pump attached to the fuel tank. The tank should be able to hold a small amount of pressure or vacuum. This certifies the evaporated gas inside the tank won't leak out to the atmosphere.

Unburnt gas vapor is supposedly a significant pollutant by itself. I.e. just leaving a tank of gas out without the cap on is a Bad Thing (TM). Indianapolis has this thing called "Knozone" days where they ask you not to fuel your car until after 6PM just because of the vapor that gets out while fueling.

A dirty radiator shouldn't cause this.

I will try this. I've been throwing this code for a year... never tried pressing down REAL HARD tho, thanks

The CEL for a loose gas cap will also come on if you leave the ignition in the "on" or "accessory" postion while filling the car with fuel. And never fill the car with it running, that will cause the light to come on also.

If this isn't what's happening, you could have a bad seal around the cap itself, causing the "air" leak

I figured out what mine was . When i put my walbro fuel pump in i didnt tighten the bolts on the sealer plate enough. Somebody told me not to go to tight because the bolts can snap! Which they can. But i got scared and didnt tighten it down enough. They were really loose. Ps when you take ur back seat out dont use the roof of your car to put it on. I gave my self a nice scratch...idiot.

nobody told you the torque values for those things? My belief is that if you can find a torque value for it, it's probably important enough to torque it down to the right specs.

For the p0457, code also take a look at the evap hoses behind the alt. Look close there is few hoses that can come loose. I almost paid 50 bucks for a new cap but after a closer look found a nipple had snapped off the sensor.

Sometimes the cap gets old. Replace it.
Sometimes the top of the filler neck gets rusty. Stuff a rag in the filler neck, ScotchBrite the filler (where the cap seals), remove the rag and use a thin smear of wheelbearing grease on the seal contact area.

Older cars, it can be the filler neck (under the splash guard in the RR wheel well) is rusting through. Sorta a PITA to replace.

Then you are down to hoses, vent valve or purge valve. Smoke test may be easiest.
