Questions for those running fixed race seats in their WRX.
So I am taking the plunge and making the wagon more "track prepped". I want to install new seats (thinking Sparco Evo 2's), and I have a few questions on the install.
- What type seats are you running or recommend? - Was the mounting difficult? - What hardware did you use? Do you have sliders? - How did you deactivate the airbag light on the dash since the side airbags are removed? I will be installing a roll bar and harnesses too. Thanks, for any info and advice.

Sparco EVO i like them cause i'm small.
mounting easy. might have to drill a couple holes here and there depending on what mounts you use. i have bride sliding rails on drivers side (lighter then sparco sliders) and sparco fixed base on the passenger side (will need to drill 2 holes here but very easy) both using sparco sidemounts. did not deactivate airbag light cause i dont care, but you can with a simple resistor plugged into the harness. |

I've mounted an evo3 and an evo2 in my car, the evo3 with sliders. I didn't worry about turning off the airbag light (I just ignore it). Mounting is easy, I used the Sparco seat base adapters and it bolts right up to the stock mounting points.

I have the Sparco Pro 2000 in my car. They are more of a skinny fit. I also have driven from Southern California to Sacramento in the seats and I love them. The seats are very comfortable for daily driving. I will tell you the side bolsters are kind of high, I run my steering wheel almost all the way up, this helps with keeping my elbow up in an aggressive driving stance. Mounting is easy, just a couple hours of work.
I took my cluster apart and put electrical tape on the airbag window, I also taped my ABS light at the same time because I pulled the fuse to disengage the ABS. Hope that helps. Peace out, Marvin Gravel Crew Rally Team USA |

You just need a 3.3 (?) ohm resistor for the airbag light. I think I might actually have a few left from my JDM seat install.
I don't think you can go wrong with the Evo's. You might wanna check out the regular Evo (as opposed to the L and XL) just to be sure. |

The mounting is not difficult. I use Sparco Corsa and use Sparco mounting brakets and rail and its pretty easy and yes I have the sliders although its not particularly important for me. Airbag issue been provided by you by some others - Charles |

Mav1c, for some reason if you haven't already been there like 100 times... don't want to be preaching to the choir if this is the case, but OG Racing has a bunch of seats mounted so you can test-fit them and get an idea of what fits your body well. I'm just weird and fit a lot more comfortably in Kirkeys than I do any of the composite/plastic molded seats. Go figure.

I don't know about others, I found that my EVO2 seats on a slider would not clear the 'B' pillar trim panel. Not an issue for me as it's primarily a track car so the trim came off, but might be for others. I'm using Sparco sliders and Sparco flat base mounts.

My EVO2's rubbed the b-pillar but did not prevent sliding and seat back adjustments.

Alot of times, you have to remove the inner B-pillar plastic cover to get race seats to work well, depending on drving position. I like to sit low and back with a 3 inch wheel extention and extend the gear shifted a little. Very touring car like and moves the weight more to the rear, which the STi needs. My issue with my latest project is the roll cage is very close to the seat and requires more rake on the roll hoop than we want. For the street Bride makes some brackets that get you LOW. The sparco brackets allow you to go more towards the center of the car.

Well it sounds like the B-Pillar trim will have to be removed. I like sitting pretty upright, so maybe that will help. I suppose I should get all the pieces together before I put the rollbarr in. Thanks for all the help!

If the seat is set off closer to the car center up to an EVO2 should width will not require the trim to be removed.
Also consider getting a custom cage for two reasons - 1. So the main hoop will be where it belongs on the rear seat shelf instead of the rice paper floor pan and 2. so the rear supports for the main hoop go to the strut tops instead of half way up. This arrangement also gives more room for the seat while keeping the main hoop perpendicular in the car. |

I run the EVO 2. Very nice as real people actualy fit in it. However like most you can't get all that far from the steering wheel as the B pillar and the sholder wing get in a fight.

I'm running a bride zeta 3, not that big i am like 5'7" 140lbs. Using the sparco seat bracket. I had a corsa, and it rubbed on the b pillar. My bride when i mounted it, i pushed the bracket in as far towards the middle of the car as possible, and it isnt an issue. The seats also narrower than the corsa, so that helps as well.

We have Pro 2000s mounted using the Sparco mounts and sliders. No problems with clearance on the passenger side at all, drivers side rubs the B-pillar trim but can be adjusted through it's full range. Sparco mounts are pretty good, only needed a little bit of dremel work to make them fit correctly. Make sure that you do use the dremel and don't try to force the bolts in because you'll end up crossthreading them. The sliders were kind of a pain to assemble as they don't come with any instructions and even though I consider myself fairly mechanical I had to take quite a bit of time to figure out which screw length went where. We've got the resistors to deactivate the airbag light but have not used them. We just ignore the light.

Love my Sparco Pro 2000 with sparco sliders, installed courtesy of TurboICE so you'll have to ask him
But they slide, yes the shoulder portion hits the B pillar, but I'm a short guy (5' 8" on a good day) and like to sit close so I don't have any problem at all. Very comfy even on long trips, though I use the harness on the street as the factory lap belt leaves about 3+" of room between my hips and the bolsters. Might want to consider getting pull up instead of pull down harnesses. |

You have enough car control problems - so yours was set up centered on the steering wheel and pedals. If the b-pillar is a problem we can shift it to the right some and it will clear.
Yeah the sides on the Pro2000 are really deep. It is easier to use the OEM belt (as well as get in and out of the car) with the EVO style. Although the Corsa or Pro2000 is a better show when a hottie is trying to get out of it in a skirt - so worn the woman that is why everyone is always staring at her when she gets out. I have found that what works best on the harness is to use a pull up on the inside and pull down on the outside. If you are doing both sides makes it easy, order one pull up lap and one pull down lap and swap halves. On every application I have done this on it works great and makes it easier to get strapped in properly which is completely immobile. |

- no it's fine for me, I love where it sits right now in all directions. One time somebody had to move it back because they were a lot taller than me, but hey, it's my car, so tough luck for them! Also, as for the "woman in short skirt" comment - somebody stopped by for 2 seconds to borrow a cable from me over the weekend with his gf, and he wanted to sit in the seat. Told his gf to try it because it was so comfortable... Let's just say I felt I had to leave before the inevitable, "It's really hard to get out of this thing without..." |
