Default engine service light help

I recently put a up and down pipe on my 04 WRX and now the check engine light is constantly turning on. I took it in to have them hook it up to the computer. The technician said that my car was used to gettting so much oxygen and now that I got rid of all those extra cats the computer is not used to it. He said there was nothing I could do to stop the light from turning on, short of putting back all those cats. Is this true? Isnt there anyway to fool the computer?

You need to post the exact codes, but most likely if you installed a catless downpipe you are getting a P0420 catalyst inefficiency code from the now-missing downpipe cat. Also if you removed the EGT probe with the factory uppipe and didn't reinstall it you'll get a code from that as well.
All of this is well documented in the 2.0 Turbo Powertrain forum, along with the necessary fixes to eliminate the codes.

I am not sure on the exact code but I do know for sure that the EGT Probe is installed. Thank you for the direction.
