Default 05 STI with no cold air coming from AC

My 05 STI has about 90 miles on it and thus far I have not been able to get it produce cold air when I turn on the AC. When I turn on the AC it feels like the heater is on. When I turn on the AC when its dark out or when its not that hot, then the air is just normal, not cool, not hot, but when its sunny out and its really hot, the air from the AC is totally hot too. Anyone one with any info on what this might be? Is it just the car breaking in or could I have a problem with the AC?

If it is really hot outside, make sure the air conditioner is on recirculate. This way you are not mixing with the outside air (this is why it feels cooler at night) . You may also be seeing condensation from the vents, also meaning that the recirculation is not on. I have found that this makes the world of difference.

(Just for giggles, also make sure that the temp guage is all the way on cold>>>You'd be amazed on how many people keep it on middle or hot)

Thanks for the feedback, yeah I have the AC on circulate and I have the temp gauge all the way down at the 65 degree marker and the air is still freakin hot.

Make sure your ac is plugged in. When I first bought my old rs, I had the same problem, lifted the hood and noticed the ac wasn't plugged in. I believe they ship them that way.

Thanks for the feedback, where in the engine bay would the AC wire be? What's the best way for me to tell if the wire I think is the AC wire is the AC wire? Just a general location and I should be able to find it.

mine does the same ***** too......except 70% of the time it is cold air. it is not consistent with the cool air. Took it to Mastro in Tampa, they checked pressure, said it was good and measured the temp coming from the vents and claimed 20 some degrees. it was rainy and overcast outside . i have the same symptoms, when it is really hot out, it doesnt want to cool off that well, at night i cant keep it on 65 cuz it gets toooooo cold`

Right on top of the AC compressor there is a small grey connector - it is not plugged in at shipment. Also, check the fuse/relay box under the hood. IIRC, there is a fuse or relay that needs to be installed as well.
My old 04 WRX had a bad pressure switch at delivery and the AC didn't work, so you may have another problem.

i had the same issue when i had my STi - a quick fix is to turn the knob all the way to the warm and back to right above 65... i believe it's an issue with the HVAC controls more than the AC compressor/equipment.

if that doesn't work - take it to the dealer

IIRC, the AC button is on the far right-side button (the outer ring controls the temperature). The far left-side button is for the rear window defroster.
