Default Low Coolant Question

Last week i took my car to pep boys to have the coolant flushed and filled. They were about to fill it with their proline brand coolant w/ phosphates and silicates, which is a big no-no. Before they did i told them to change to the peak brand that doesnt contain phosphates or silicates. The peak is yellow in color. The first few days i checked the yellow coolant was above the high mark. Now in recent days i've been checking the coolant level and to my suprise it is at the low level mark, and it contains the old green colored coolant. I have no clue what happened. I bought some green subaru coolant from the dealer and plan on filling it up today after making sure there are no leaks present. Does anyone know whats goin on? BTW my car is a 04 WRX. Any help would be apprciated. Thanks.

George

Maybe they didn't drain it as well as they should have...
I don't trust the pep boys near my place.

...first mistake.....

....and the coolant in the engine wasn't flushed 'cuz it was behind the thermostat.....and the goons likely didn't 'burp' the system and ya had a bubble or 2 in it.

flush the coolant yourself again and burp the system of any bubbles. I'd bet good money the idiot working on your car was probably doing his first coolant flush with your Subaru.

Thanks for the replies, it does look like this guy had no clue how to do a coolant change with a subaru. I guess i should of been worried when they were about to put the proline coolant in, and their excuse is that "they didnt know about the silicates problem with aluminum parts, they just put in what ever is listed in their computer". I got a few questions, i wont be able to do the flush for a week, will it be ok to just fill it up a little to get it to the right level and get it flushed next week. Will their be serious problems driving with the car? Thanks again for the help.

....just buy a jug of distilled water and add that....don't waste more coolant.

honestly you can't blame the guy, the average techie doesn't know that certain coolants are bad for our engines. Considering how high maintenance our cars are, I would ONLY do the work myself, or take it to a trusted tuner who knows how to work with Subies.

As Scotty said, just fill it up with water, and do the coolant flush as soon as you have time. No problems with the car, just be sure it doesn't go dry.
