Exclamation Changed timing belt, no spark.

We changed the timing belt today, and only had one minor slip up:
we put the cams on backwards (left on right, right on left) but that was quickly fixed.
of course that would cause the lack of spark generation, but after we swapped them (there was no damage to either cam NOR the cam sensor on the drivers side)
the car still did not spark.
when we aligned the cams and did the tooth count for the timing belt, the cams were not still aligned to TDC (but the tooth count was correct, we quadruple checked BOTH times)
I have read in many places that my 2.2L engine is non interference so I should be ok in that regard.

it's making noises I've never heard before but they don't sound... bad
What could be the cause of the lack of sparks from the spark plugs (the car was working fine before the timing belt replacement)

I really don't want to redo the timing belt a third time...

Thanks.

Make sure the cam position and crank position sensors are plugged in. MAke sure you have the cam sprockets on the cams correctly. There was a thread not long ago where the person had no start issues and found out that he did not get the cam dowel into the sprocket correctly. Is the maf plugged in? Is the coil pack plugged in? Are you sure you have the plug wires going to the correct cylinders?

Try that stuff and come back.

Tim... I love you!!!
Crank shaft sensor was unplugged. don't know HOW the hell it happened but it starts up fine, sounds a little weird but that could be because the tensioner bolt for the alternator broke and we're running without it the engine seems fine.

I'll take it into a subaru dealer (or mechanic) tomorrow to check the timing and whatnot (can't they *check* it with a light gun? thought I saw that in the factory service manual)

You are a lifesaver!!!

well took it into the dealer today and had one of the techs look at it real quick (for free, but I tipped)
he said that it doesn't sound wrong, and that it should be ok to drive, but that if I get the chance to check it, he told me how to check the timing.

like I said, I did the tooth count from the factory manual, not the lines on the timing belt... should i have done it the other way?

I'm just glad it works at all and thank god for non interference engines...
