Default AC recharge

Does anyone know anything about doing this? I want to do it myself. I have a can of proper refrigerant. I understand that I need some sort of hose to go from the can to the low pressure pipe's fitting. What should I look for? Procedure?

I couldn't find anything in the FSM when I looked

I suppose this would be awful useful:

Heating , Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) (Module 603) (4148.84 kb) MSA5P0137C

I'm not dropping $35 again on another 72-hour techinfo.subaru.com subscription though

Although you can just take a can of refrigerant from the store and stick it in, this is not the proper way to do AC service. The pressures need to be monitored for the correct charge amount and best system performance, and before you add any refrigerant the system should really be tested for leaks. In normal use, recharging should not be required unless there is a leak someplace. If the system is now completely inoperative due to a leak, it definitely needs to be evaluated and repaired before any recharging is done.
Best to take it to a shop that does AC work.

Mulder is right. Part of a proper evacand charge is pulling a vacuum on the system to boil of any moisture that is in the system. Every "drop" of water can mean a 5 degree loss in vent temperature.

If you insist on doing it yourself, you can buy the hose you need, which will connect to the low side of the system at a parts store. You may have to buy a kit to get the hose. Just be careful and keep your face away from the can at all times.

I drained it by cracking the high pressure line 1/16th of a turn at a time (for a shortblock swap). Worked fine.

Thanks for the replies. I will try it myself, see how it turns out, and take it to a shop if it sucks.

I bought a pressure tester as well. Forgot to mention that.
