Fuse blowing problem
I keep blowing this fuse, it is (was) a 30amp pinkish fuse just like the one next to it. (this is the fuse box under the hood in front of the windshield washer tank.)
http://www.filehigh.com/serve.php?u=53&i=25083&t=.jpg I would look to see what that fuse is for, but I dont have an owners manual. Any help would be much appreciated. As a result of the fuse be out, I noticed that 1. My car doesnt start. 2. I didnt hear the fuel pump coming on, so I swapped it out for a Walbro, and that didnt fix the problem.

um, why did you switch the pump instead of switching the fuse? search my posts, i've posted in almost every thread discussing this problem. no one is really sure what is causing that. but, can you provide more information about your car, modifications, when it blew, etc...?

I blew three of those fuses before swapping the pump. My car is a 02 WRX sedan with AEM intake, Boost Control, Turbo Timer, and thats it. I drove to the store and came back out and the car wouldnt start. I couldnt hear the fuel pump, so I started checking fuses. I found the burnt one and went across the street to auto zone and bought two more. I through the fuse in and had my buddy watch it as I turned the ignition on, and it blew instantly. Thanks for replying. Links to these problems? |

First of all....you have an electrical problem. If the fuse keeps popping off everytime you start, it means there's a serious electrical surge, and your fuse is what's protecting your circuit. You wasted money on the 2nd fuel pump...as that's probably not the issue.
Do you have any aftermarket electrical work done to the car? Find someone with some electrical know-how and who has a multimeter, and get a repair book. Find the circuit for the fuel pump system and attempt to find where the problem is. |

I have an Apex-i Turbo Timer, that I installed with an HKS wiring harness. Everything just plugged right in. I will go back and check all of the wiring for that.
I have a multi-meter, but what do I check (besides the continuity in the timer wiring)? |

I went back and checked out all of the timer connections, and they are all legit. I slapped another fuse in and it popped instantly.
I also reset the ecu for craps and giggles. Can somebody with a service manual tell me what circuit this fuse is on? I am ordering one right now. nate.the.great, can you link me to any of your discussions on this? I dont understand how some catastrophic electrical short could have happened while I was in the store? Anymore info would be appreciated. Thanks <ENRIC0))) |

check the wire running from your fuel pump under you back seat. make sure it is not pinched.

check the fuse itself, put a multimeter where the fuse itself is. If the readings are correct, then it might just be a bad fuse...if you're lucky that is.

Thanks for replying, I will check the fuel pump wiring. There is no question the fuses are burt. You can put a brand new fuse in and watch it pop when you turn the key on. The problem is not the fuse, but what is making the fuse burn out.
The feedback is appreciated |

First it would probally be good know what that fuse is for....You might have a short or maybe something causing some high resistance requiring the load to pull more amps through....see what that fuse is for and find a wiring diagram...If you need a diagram I can use Mitchell On Demand at work and maybe fax you it...PM me if you need a wiring diagram

CHeck wiring you did through the firewall for worn through wires shorting out. Check all the wiring you did for that.

from a brief read through the manuel, looks like the fuse is an sbf-5. the power from the fuse is distrubuted to 1) data link connector 2) Engine control module 3) Fuse pump relay & 4) Main relay
your "most likely" problem is a short along one of those circuit. check for continuity between the two pins in the fuse box (with the fuse out) to chassis. if one of the pin is shorted to chassis, it then becomes a hunt as to where it is fyi....resistance goes down as current goes up |
