Did you check to make sure the terminals are securly connected to the battery. Definately sounds electrical. I had problems with the motor cranking for a few seconds before starting in the past. That all changed when I stuck in the Optima Red Top battery. No hesitation anymore.

Bet it's either the battery or the main battery wires. The reset of the clock and radio is proff your voltage is dropping way low, which means the starter is pulling more current than the battery can deliver. Because it works the second time, it's likely a loose connection.

Check surface charge of the battery, check voltage and current going to the starter motor, check all terminals and connections.

factory alarm does disable the starter, there is a little metal panel screwed to the bottom of the steering column under the dash, with two black relays. one is the starter disable relay, the other is the alarm horn relay.
the security system harness plugs in to the radio harness, between the stereo and the vehicle harness. maybe a memory power wire has a poor contact or is broken, triggering the false starter innerupt. |
