Help: Aluminum Low Profile Floor Jack Maintenance
searched all over the net and didnt find much....anyone have any instructions on how to change/check the seals on an aluminum racing floor jack?? mine drips oil from the piston area under operation...i will prolly have to get some more oil for it as well...is it just gear oil?? i dont have the jack in front of me right now, but iirc, it only has instructions on how to bleed air on the label itself...any help would be appreciated...thanks

Welcome to the world of el cheapo jacks! Most places that sell jacks should be able to provide you with the oil. The place you bought the jack from should be able to provide you with repair instructions/seals *if they are available*. Unfortunately, many/most of these cheap entry-level jacks are pretty much disposable items.

on the other hand... do we really need a $1200 jack? I don't think so.

spent around $100 for the craftsman aluminum one after craftsman club discounts and sale. I think they may be even cheaper now. Bit more than the harbor freight variety but worth it for the peace of mind. The design looks identical enough that I think you may be able to get a rebuilt kit through sears

Costco sells an aluminum jack (at least they did 6 months ago), and they have a lifetime satisfaction guarantee.

there is also jack oil available at places like pep-boys which is supposed to help seal leaks (must swell the seals) - that would be relatively easy to try.
