if you think it might be a bad wheel bearing...test it. Put the wheel up in the tire, unbolt the axle nut, try to move the wheel laterlaly. If it moves, your bearings are screwed, remove the hub, get the bearings pressed out/pressed at a machine shop (if at home if you have a press), and reinstall the hub.

He has a brand new 05 STi, chances of a bad bearing are close to zero and in any case it's a warranty repair if something is wrong.
Are you sure it's not the power steering, if you hold it at full lock (a bad thing to do) the pump may make some noise.
Also I know on the 04's the DCCD would make some noises on tight low-speed turns, the 05 is presumably the same and you may be hearing that.

good point, i didn't see he had an '05 sti.

well anyways, your car should still be under warranty, so take it to them, let them figure it out.

I have an 05 RS and it does the exact same thing when I back into my garage, usuallt when I have the wheel fully deflected. However I do not think it is anything bad, I think it is an AWD trait. We used to have a Toyota 4-Runner and when it was in 4 wheel drive it made the same noise on a tight turn, and when it was doing that I read somewhere that 4WD does not like to be turned hard at low speeds so the same might apply to AWD. Also if you look in your manual it talks about hearing odd sounds during certain situations and that it is normal. Just my thoughts

I've noticed the same thing with my 05 RS, but only when driving
out of my driveway and turning left, with the car cold. I attribute
this to cold oil in the center LSD.
