Default Spikes Spider -- An alternative to chains

Has anyone used a Spikes Spider.

It is a rather interesting alternative to tire chains.
I am curious how well they work.

I am pretty sure the owners manual says not to use chains on a Subaru. I think these would be the same thing.

"Safe up to 30 mph"

It's a cool idea, but I'd bet they'd go flying off at any speed over 30. Plus, they're expensive!!! You can buy some decent snow-tires for that amount...
