Angry Chips Ahoy.

Driving home tonight a truck with some gravel coming from the other direction dropped a rock on my windshield and put a nice crack in it. A few minutes later another did the same thing! Two in less than 5 minutes apart. I'm super PO'd. One looks like a BB hit it the other looks like a small 3/8" hairline crack. The insurance company says it's repairable. I've only had windshields replaced before not repaired. I sort of like the idea of repair if it works. Both are not in my direct line of vision. Has anyone had this done and how does it hold up? To me replacing the whole windshield means risk of it leaking or something else getting messed up. Any input would be appreciated.

Hey Peaty I have had my windshield repaired. It looked OK for the first couple of months. Then as the Arizona sun set in it turned blurry and yellow. I would replace the whole windshield before repairing again. I would crack it a little more and have insurance take care of it by replacement, not by repair. This is my experience and my beliefs about windshield repair. Good Luck.

If you find a good shop they should be able to make something that small look nearly invisible. Make sure to look for a shop with some kind of warranty to guarantee that it won't return in the future. I had mine done and they had a ten year warranty. It practically disappeared. It cost me $80 for a 7" crack.

Mmmmmmm... cookies.

I still have a chip in mine... decided not to get it repaired and just to replace it after it gets nailed again. It's been like 9 months now, now more cracks or chips. It's getting frustrating... LOL.
