Question Cruise Control Indicator

I just found out that there is no cruise control indicator on MY02 WRX. i looked through the ECU Pinout to look for a pin for it, but I couldnt find anything.

Is there a way to find of if the Cruise Control is set and active?

I am hoping to do something very low-tech and just use a LED indicator, but i need to know which wire to tap to install the indicator.

thanks

Yeah, I thought this was pretty chintzy as well until I realized:

(1) How obvious it is that cruise is on or off; and

(2) How infrequently I use it in a car that's as much fun as the WRX!

You hit one of my hot buttons. I've always liked that green cruise-engaged light that Honda and others have. I wish Subaru would also include this minor feature in all their cruise-equipped cars.

Default Cruise Control Indicator

Do you guy's mean a light in addition to the seperate switch down beside the fog lights??

So are you talking about a seperate LED like some motorbikes to tell what gear you are in??

I have a seperate switch to activate the cruise sontrol and then there is the little lever on the steering wheel for all the cruise functions. I have a Liberty 2.5 RX (ala Legacy GT).

I think they mean a light that lights up when cruise control is actually engaged, not just the system is ready(dashboard switch.)

yup, that is what i meant...my bad for not being clear...

in my old car, there were separate indicators. there was a toggle switch with an LED that indicated the cruise control system was ready to be activated. and then when i did set the cruise speed, the dash has a green "CRUISE" saying i was cruising.

i am thinking there is a pin somewhere, even for the wrx, to be used as an indicator. i dont have much knowledge about how the cruise control actually works, but is there is a separate cruise control module that actually control the system? or is tied into another system?

thanx in advance.

Just a reminder guys, but PLEASE be EXTREMELY careful if you go futzing with the cruise control... i dont want to see any stories posted about a subaru getting the cruise control locked on full throttle, etc... and it could happen, so just be careful. on that note, there has to be a way to tell if the cruise control is active, and i am sure you could wire something up like the old VTEC light that is so popular on honda's.
