Default staggered fitment wheels

anyone tried staggered fitment wheels i want to try 18x7 1/2 225/40 front 18x 8 1/2 245/35 rear ive seen it before and if you know where there is some pictures of a stagered fitment do tell

umm - I really don't think you do. that setup would give you far more grip in the rear than the front, increasing understeer. haven't met too many WRX owners who want more than the factory provided understeer - and if you really want more rear grip there are much easier and less expensive ways to get it.

Red Rocket's setup had larger wheels on the front, smaller on the back - same size tires on both ends. This gave him more front grip - reducing understeer and improving the car's handling. some tuner EVO's and STI's in Japan do the same thing. Please note: I'm not recommending that you do this - just letting you know that it's been done and by whom

if you're referring to larger wheels/tires on the back, smaller on the front, so have I - on RWD cars like Camaros, Mustangs, etc. FWD or front-biased AWD like Subaru need the opposite approach as described above - or simply intelligent suspension and alignment choices with same size wheels and tires on all four corners. that's what 99.9% of us do...

Short answer: NO!

Long Answer: The diameters of the front and rear tires will be different, causing different rotational speeds. This will cause the center diff to constantly try and compensate, leading to premature failure. Remember, the AWD system is designed to send more power to the tires that have traction. So when it sees one set of tires spinning faster than the other it will constantly be working to correct what it thinks is tire slippage, which will lead to overheating and excessive wear of the center diff.

As as example, I looked on tirerack.com and took the first 245/35-18 tires in the list, the Continental ContiSportContact2.

245/35-18 Diameter: 24.8"
225/40-18 Diameter: 25.1"

Also, like said above, wider tires in the rear will make the car understeer horribly.

So, that's my stab at why you CAN NOT do what you mentioned, or at least should not. There are a lot of really smart people on the board that can probably explain it better than I can, but I think you get the idea.

Oh, and IMHO, it would look silly. Subarus weren't designed to have staggered tires. Now, if you had 245/35-18's on all 4, that would look mean.

I am running staggered right now. 17x9 front and 17x8.5 rear. Same size tire all around, 255/40. Like said it improves turn in, eliminates understeer and helps the car rotate better. Definitly made a difference in the cars handling abilities. Stagger the other way though, i definitly would not recommend doing that.
