Default Where is the coolant leak coming from?

I have 2002 WRX, no mods, 60K miles. After long drives, I smell a strong smell of coolant. I had the dealership check the coolant system and found no leaks, but I am sure it is there. Where are common areas that leak?

i have not had coolant flush in 30K miles, and I just added some coolant to the reservoir. Could this have anything to do with it?

I can taste teh suck

You might not have a leak, but rather just have the smell. I have this issue to varying degress with both my RS and WRX. The RS was worse because I overfilled the resevior and it would slowly seep out as it heated up.

I had this problem, the harder I drove the car the more I could notice it, yet I could never find the leak.

It got worse and worse until one day(after a bout of particularly spirited driving) I noticed big gray plume of smoke coming our from behind the car. I pulled over and smoke started pooring out of the hood scoop.

I thought I had blown the engine so I brought it straight to subaru and it turns out the problem was a spring clip on a coolant hose located in the vacinity of the turbo. When I really got the engine wound up it would spray/drip onto the turbo heat sheild and burn off before i could find the leak.

I replaced the spring clip with new one and no problems since then. Pretty scary though.

I'm in the process of fixing this problem right now. Check the coolant line going into the turbo (from the reservoir there is a little almost z/s-shaped line). Mine leaks from there....not enough to see smoke, but I started smelling it one day and noticed a little coolant on my turbo (heatshield is currently off). It may just be the clamp, but if not, you will need to get the tube/line from the dealer. I tried using some regular fuel line, but it kinked up because the way the line needs to run.

if you have the stock cap, the spring may get weak after a while.
Or thats what happened to me. Coolant would come past the spring and spill over around the top of the coolant header tank and evaporate off.

caution putting on a 1.3bar cap on a 02wrx, the plastic end tanks on your rad might break because of the pressure exerted.
