Default How to properly wire a radiator fan with a switch?

This isn't for my suby, but I thought you electronics gurus could help me out.

My honda CBR600F2 keeps blowing out radiator fan motors...it looks to be a problem in the wiring harness, which is going to cost me around $400, which i'm not willing to spend.

I'm thinking of just getting a standard 12V fan that I can attach to the radiator, run wires straight to the battery, and put in a switch to controll it.

Can someone tell me how to properly wire this? I know I need a fuse in the 12V line, but I think i'd also need a diode to keep it at 12v?
