Question Fueling issue with 93 Legacy...

My parents have a 93 legacy wagon with 2.2L that is having what I think is a fueling issue. The engine runs rough at idle, and at speed and has about 1/3 the power it used to have. Also it sounds like it has an exhaust leak even though it doesn't, (checked already).

The car ran fine for ever, and then about 1 year ago it started to have a header leak. They ran it with the leak, (my father hates fixing things ) until it got too loud and they finally had to change out the headers. The car ran fine for several weeks and then all of a sudden it started the above mentioned symptoms. We checked the headers but they are fine. Even disconnected the rest of the exhaust from the headers to see if maybe the rear pipes were plugged, but the engine still has no power. We had a neighbor look at it and he suggested that it might be the fuel system. To test it he took his acetelyne (sp?) torch and turned on the gas while holding it next to the air box on the suby. The rough idle immediately smoothed out and the engine sounded perfect.

The car has a CEL but we have to take it to a mechanic to read the code. That is the next step I know, but I thought that maybe somebody on the forums would have an idea.

Any help would be appreciated.

Have the CEL checked at a mechanic/dealer/Autozone and let us know what it is. Chances are it's something simple, like a bad MAF, and it'll be back on the road, good as new.

Sounds like a bad sensor to me. You could get the injectors flow tested, I would replace/check the spark plugs and wires also. Maybe a bad fuel pump.

Most likely it's a sensor thing, get that code read.
