Default tips for USDM EJ205 to JDM EJ205 swap?

I'm all but set on picking up one of Gruppe-S's JDM EJ205 Legacy motors to swap into my 03 WRX. My last hurdle is the swap. I checked with the place that does my tuning, and they want a little over $3000 just for the labor for the swap, which seems a bit steep.

I've done a motor swap before with a buddy on a Neon and am reasonably handy around an engine bay. Is the WRX motor something that can be swapped by a shade-tree mechanic, or is it pretty much a job to leave to the pros? And if it can be done at home, any rough estimates on the time it would take with a hoist and a couple of people working on it?

Thanks in advance for any help and advice.

You should be able to do it easy in a weekend with a buddy.. It is pretty straight foward.. 3k for a wrx motor into a wrx is ridiculous..

$3000 @ $65/hour labor is like 46 hours or almost 2 weeks. Seems like a long time for a professional shop to take to do an engine swap.

What is their hourly rate?

I would also guess plan on an entire weekend for 2 people at home, as long as you both know what you are doing.

you will have to rewire the tumbler valve harness to accept avcs, thats the biggest challenge.

most places Ive asked wanted $500 for labor on a longblock....and $1000 for shortblock install....

Now that is pretty damn cheap.

I have been checking costs of swaps from garage guys, tiny shops and reputable shops.
The costs change from shop to shop of course. But so do the resultsIt's your carso do your homeowrk and see who has the most and best conversions out there. So far, I have nailed it down to I-speed and LICmotorsports. I think the guy at LIC use to work at I-speed. I could be wrong
The alternative do it yourself.
nothing like a learning and blood letting to make you appreciate paying a pro.
I plan to have my done, weekend work, by turkeyday wish me luck!
