Default Exhaust manifold replacement

The factory manifold and converters on my 98 RS are in really bad shape. The manifold itself is cracked, and the converters look pretty beaten. I've installed a cat-back from the 04 STi and now wish to just upgrade the rest. I'd like an exhaust system that performs, and doesn't lose the boxer note. Should I go with a header, or test pipes? The car is supercharged and this is apparently my weak point. Thanks

Hey, I'm planning on Supercharging my 98 RS also. But i'm shooting for alot more boost and power than you probably have. Either way, I'd recommend a Tech Works Engineering High flow cat section, and then some borla headers to keep/magnify your boxer note.

I was going to go with the EL High Output headers, HO High-flow cat section, HO midpipe with resonator, and then probably a Magnaflow muffler. This will probably ruin my chances of hearing the boxer note from my car. But i'm not hearing it now and i've got a 02 WRX Cat-back.

BTW, what Supercharger system do you have?

FWIW, the "boxer sound" is the result of unequal/unbalanced headers. The stock headers result in some really weird exhaust pulse orders, so they make the funky sound. Unfortunately, it's the sound of inefficiency.

If you're looking for the best power, look for an equal-length setup like the Tech Works. If you just want a cool sound, the Borlas are well-loved (as mentioned above).
