Default Sti vs Wrx headlights

Everyone says you could not put a HID kit into a factory Halogen headlight but while my buddy and I were cleaning our cars, I took notice to each of our headlights (His being the STI) and I could not tell a difference at all in the housing itself. Yes the bulb was different but the housings look identical. Is this to say you could get away with a name brand HID kit like Phillips and it wouldn't cause light glare all over the place? I'm just trying to verify what it is that makes the housings so different.

They may look the same to the naked eye, but there are indeed differences between the STI HID reflector housings compared the WRX ones. The reflecting points are setup to where the DSR bulbs won't emit light everywhere. And yes, there will be glare issues if you just stuck in an HID kit in the WRX lights. You would have to aim them lower to not blind oncoming traffic, which would then mean less light output on the road.

They are not the same, and you can see the difference with the naked eye. The reflector segments are not the same size- look closer.

I've recently installed JDM 05 STI HIDS. Obviously, because they drive on the other side over there, the beam pattern is facing to the wrong side of the road (left vs. right).

Is there any way to fix this, either by buying USDM reflector housings, or maybe there's a way to "tweak" the beam pattern sideways?

not without tweaking the reflector housings. with a projector you could just dremel out the cutoff so it was sloped the other way, but with reflectors they don't really change.

back to the original dillemma, they are indeed different and you can tell that by looking at the positioning of the bulb in the housing. if you want to try it, it would be interesting to get a picture of both hid housings and halogen housings with the same HID kit, lighting up the same wall...
