Default A Tale of Three CEL's

Well, I just got back from PR's open track day with an interesting occurence. The day: ~ 40 deg and foggy. The cars: '06 STI, '05 STi and my '02 WRX wagon (Cobb Stg 2). After the second break I headed back onto the track only to see a flashing CEL on the back straight on my second lap. I pull back into the paddock next to the other 2 Subies to see if anyone has a code puller only to find that the both of them have also thrown CEL's. big time. So the '06 runs off to the dealer (never to be seen again) and the '05 and I pop off to Schucks to get the codes read. (Since Nobody has a code reader and I left my 2 at home) It turns out that I show no code and the '05 shows a misfire cyl 4 and a pending misfire cyl 2. We get them cleared and it occurs to me on the way back to the track that many hot laps (1.5 hrs) + cold humid day then heat soaking the IC and going back out and putting the hammer down immediately would probably result in some detonation and a CEL. So, cleared CEL, opening the hood in the paddock and taking it easy for the first couple laps out resulted in no further problems for either of us.

This has probably been hashed over many times before, but just thought I'd throw it out there again for further data.

Interesting, but it does make sense. Generally on-track I take it easy the first 2 or 3 laps no matter what to get the tires warmed up etc etc.
