What color is bird crap?

Default Overheating for no apparent reason? Why yes I am!

Continuation of the "Oh Damnit" Thread OR Happy Holidays Indeed

The car in question is a MY02 WRX.

Had a funny bubbling noise that turned out to be a metric buttload of air in the cooling system. Brought the car to the dealer to have it pressure checked, and it turns out there are no leaks in the coolant system. The dealer topped my coolant off and I was on my merry way. So: coolant is not leaking. The new coolant is staying in the car quite nicely. However, the engine bay is still, for no apparent reason, EXTREMELY hot at all times, even on short drives. WHENEVER the car is stopped, even for only a second or two at a red light, the radiator fan comes on until I move from the light. Any ideas? Am I digging myself an expensive hole? The dealer doesn't seem to know what the fark is wrong with my car.

Supplemental: temperature gauge reads normal at all times.

How do you know your engine has never been hot all the time. They normall do get quite hot in general. There's a combustion oven in their all the time

When your engine is up to normal operating temperature, the fan comes on quite often. Especially on a warm/hot day, the fan will cycle on and off a lot even during idle, but even on a cold -15degrees morning, the engine compartment gets pretty warm in just a minute of normal driving load.
Don't know if that helps.

I hope you're right. The only things that worry me are that my coolant was inexplicably empty this morning until I went to get it topped at the dealer even though it was full 2k miles ago, and the fact that the fan has been going on more often than usual this week. There are also more heat waves than usual coming out my hood scoop and when I stand over the engine bay it is like a wall of fire hitting me in the face instead of a wall of warm, like it used to be like, last week.

Without a reference point, it's hard to know what your definition of "hot" is.
I can tell you, compare to my Mazda, the Subaru is a lot "hotter" under normal operation.
Why did your coolant go down? Did you just get it changed and possibly had some air pockets in the system, and just now being purged?

Well, yes... I know Subarus tend to run hotter than other cars, largely thanks to the turbo. Turbos run hot, right? Makes sense. Anyway, I'm using the car as its own reference. What I mean by that is, the car NOW is hotter than the car was LAST week. I mean, it's noticeable just standing next to the engine bay. I'm hoping it was a fluke or I'm just crazy, but the low coolant and air pockets are making me paranoid.

Well this is what I would do.
1.check the dip stick,is there antifreze mixing with the oil, funny color, etc.
2. check the exhaust for white smoke.
3. burb the system make sure all air is out.
4Did the dealer pressure check it??
5Maybe your thermostat is sticking closed,or staying closed. If it is an 02 and never changed I would replace it.When the car is hot feel the hoses and see if one is cooler then the other.
6If all this stuff is good,it probaly just had
air stuck in the system and needed to be top off.But if it alot hotter then normal, then it could be a bad thermostat or a blocked heater core.Bring it to another shop and have these things checked.

I think you are a little overreactive. Conditions you described has not warranted any condition of overheating. Other than what you said about the air pockets, but that apparently has been resolved before your furthur concerns.

The car can get hot. Like light-yourself-on-fire hot. Coolant temperature can range from about 180 to 200 degrees under normal operating load. Your car wants to run at that temperature range. Unless you can verify that your car is running abnormally hot (reading what the ECU actually says about the temperature, a temperature differance in the radiator and/or upper/lower hoses, collapsing hoses, etc.) without "feeling" how warm it is, we can't really draw conclusions to a problem which questions its existance.

Good luck and happy holidays,
