Default Need a lil help...

Hi everyone, I'm no mechanic honestly i look under the hood and its like trying to learn a foreign language. I need help changing my tranny and diff oil, I'm reading all these posts and i can't figure out exactly what to use in my car. I have about 99k miles in my wrx and am not sure how long ago the oil has been changed. I have no idea how to change the oil on either of these, so if someone can help me by tellin me what i need, and what i need to do. I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks in advance.

cool beans.

try this for some informative reading.

for your gearbox oil its just a drain plug like motor oil. - i believe its 22mm or 21mm or somthing big.

the rear diff is a 1/2 drive socket. so if you have some simple tools you can do it pretty easily. you basically remove the top bolt first, then bottom.

let the nasty old diff fluid drain out, and then clean and replace the bottom bolt. you'll have mad amounts of nasty icky sludge on the plug (its magnetic)

bolt in the bottom plug, then fill the diff untill oil seeps out the top plug. you can use cheap 80/90 oil of any variety, no point in using synthetic - waste of money imo.

the gearbox has a dipstick on the left side under the intercooler area, drain out from the bottom big bolt, clean, replace bolt and then fill from the top - youll want a funnel of some sort. fill untill fill line- i think its 3.7 quarts (or 2.7 or somthing) capacity. rear diff is a little more than half quart, depending on how much you spill.

id love to help you, but im in nor-cal. perhaps post in so-cal forum and see if somone can help you do it.

its really cheap. gearbox oil should cost you like $3*4 bottles, and rear diff oil $3 for 1 bottle. if you are having issues with your syncromesh, perhaps try the uncle scotty mix mix

im assuming you want to do it yourself to save some dough, that is what i do myself :P

if you pm me with your email address or catch me on AIM instant messenger id be glad to email you the service manual PDF files!
