Default 1st time buyer ~ what do you think of these ??

Hi guys & gals, I'm new to Subie's so I would like to ask a few q's.

I'm looking at getting a turbo wagon as my winter ride and summer hauler. Here's two 94's I've found. Same car, just much different condition . One's mega milleage and needs work but I can probabaly get it cheap. The other is low miles at a dealer pricing.

1] 244,000 kms [148 miles]

body is excellent, was oil treated every year
Subie garage did an inspection on it and faxed the mechanics notes to me.

- brakes all round $700
- right front axle $300
- left boot $150
- a/c $800 to start [ don't care to fix ]
- All struts $1600
- R/C gasket $100

I'm wondering if its worth my while to pick up car #1 for less than $1000. Put brakes on it and drive it through the winter . Or does this car sound completely used up ~ waste of money. I did find all sorts of records in the glove box that indicate the owner took great care of the car as in lots of oil changes. The timing belt was replaced for the 2nd time around 196,000 kms so that's done.

I drove the car and it drives well though I have nothing to compare it to. It did make a nasty "scratching" sound when I first pulled out of the parking lot so that could have been the axle. I went into a larger lot to do some circles both ways and the car is quiet.

The motor has decent power and the suspension is liveable [ doesn't drive like a caprice]

2] 137,000 kms [83 miles] $11,700 Cdn [$7550 US]

This car sounds like a nice long term vehicle. I want something that I'll drive all winter and then will sit around most of the summer except for trips and hauling bikes on the weekend.

For the price they quoted you on a set of replacement struts you could buy a nice set of coil-overs. KYB makes an adjustable valved strut that will fit your car perfectly. The cost is around $400 shipped to your door.

By the way how much do they want for the first one?

There are many performance friendly mods that you can do to the 2.2 litre turbo engine to produce great power.
