Exhaust wrap
I'm going to be getting a Borla header. Should I wrap it? I live in New England, I think between dirt, salt and snow it will rot out pretty bad. Has anyone done this? I was told by a friend that never let me down yet, but more opinions won't hurt

You'll get mixed opinions about your question just for a heads up. Mine have been wrapped for 2 years now and I also live in New England. Ive re-wrapped mine twice already, pretty much once a year. Still no rot in anyway.

Reason, I've been told the best route is to spray the header with some high temp paint and let it dry. Afterwards, wrap it with the regular header wrap, and spray it again. DHI makes a High Temp Silicone Spray that they recommend for this purpose.
I've heard recommendations of going over the second coat of paint with some high heat foil tape to protect the wrap even more. I suppose it couldn't hurt. Summit sells 50ft rolls of self adhesive foil tape for somewhere around $7.00. |

so you wrap the wrap? doesnt header wrap just keep the heat in so the cat works better, and the O2 sensor reads faster?

Header wrap holds in the heat from the exhaust, keeping it out of your engine bay. Supposedly, by keeping the heat inside, it increases the velocity of the exhaust gases, but I doubt that it really makes THAT much difference. Could be wrong.

there's a good research question: what is the relationship between the wrapped vs unwrapped header and the ambient temperature in the engine bay, in the air intake pipe, of and withing the intake manifold?? other variables to consider:vented hood, type/thickness of wrap, location of cone/airbox, height of car(airflow underneath).
cooler air is ESPECIALLY important to us NA people after all! This would be great to know if anyone had any ideas of how to carry it out! i'll be looking into an ebay header in the coming month(no promises) but i'm not sure about how the best measurement could be taken. food for though if nothing else. z. |

read my post in Brys thread...
explains it best... headers are "tuned" and using a wrap on them , absorbs the harmonics and actually loses the HPs gained from the headers ... |
