Default 98 impeza l. dying help??

I own a 98 impreza l. with 225,000 miles on it. it still is runing like champ but now it started just dying while I am driving. usuall it happens worse when the car has been sitting for a while and then it will happen real bad. if I am moving along pretty good it will usually cut out and fire back up before I have to come to a complete stop. but if it dies when I am stopped, it starts to act like it is flooded. if I start it it just emmediatly dies again. this can go on for a minute or two and then it will finnally start running and I am on my way. any help insight would be great. because this little problem sure can piss you off in rush hour!! no check engine light or nothing. thanks a lot

Derik

When was the last tuneup? What plugs and wires were used?

Any other work done on it recently?

Did this happen shortly after getting a tank of gas?

If nothing has been done to it recently, but the issues have started soon after a tank of gas I would lean to water in the tank or some other fuel issue.

so where is the bpt sensor located. I am not car illiterate, but I am certainly no expert. is this a tough fix? I not to long ago put in new plugs and wires. but other than that in the four years of owning it we have never had to fix anything other than the usuall preventitive maintainence.

Check the air filter as well as the stuff mentioned above. If you cant see light through it then it need to be replaced.

Do a search in this forum for the sensors, im sure theres a writeup somewhere

My sister had the same exact problem in her 98 L. As she was driving it, it just started dying. Spitting, sputtering, stalling. No CEL either. They found it was the MAF sensor on it. I'm not guaranteeing that's the fix, but it's worth looking into.

If you were playing around with the intake, make sure the vacuum line is connected. I forgot once...just once, and it ran like ****tzu.
