you can get catback, EL headers for the power ( or UEL headers for rumble), Camshafts are prob the best NA mod i can think of, ECU stuff, and pulley. The pulley is cheap and does good for the price.

Power?

Catback first
Light flywheel and better clutch (Exedy/ACT) second
Headers third
Cams fourth
After than, you need to do a bit more.

Have you done HG's yet? If not, save up and consider the clutch/flywheel as well as cams when you need to do HG's.

Yup.

The phase-I (usually DOHC [Double OverHead Camshaft]) engines were know to blow the HG's. It really did not matter how you drove, how you maintained or where you lived.

I would guess an average is around 90K miles.

If yours were replaced a long time ago, they were probably done with the original 3 layer HG, not the better 4 layer HG available later on.

Do some searches to see the typical identifiers of when it goes.

Charlie,
I am surprised to see you mention cams in advance of headers. Care to share your logic?

Woofy,
Look at Delta Camshafts for the best price on cams. You do need to send them your core, however. So, the car will be down for a few days. And you need a qualified mechanic to adjust the shims for the valve lash. Figure $500 for that...

There's a couple of guys with DOHC's running Delta cams, but their screennames escape me right now. I will post if I can remember...

Be sure to pick up a G-Tech Pro, so you can tell us what you gained with your tinkering. Maybe not as accurate as a real dyno, but it's better than just a "butt dyno."

Matt, I'm also thinking of fitting some Delta regrinds in my '06 EJ25 while keeping the stock header. Is this such a terrible idea?

I have chopped my cat pipe after the first cat and welded in the second cat and everything behind it from a v.8 STi (JDM, 2.0 liter). I have an emanage for tuning.
If I mod one thing at a time, which would you do first, header or cams? I'm trying to keep the car as quiet as possible.

...frankenmotor..thats an easy way to get HP........get yourself some phase I or II EJ22 heads and send the cams to delta for regrind. you'll have to run premium gas though. depending on the heads your get you'll be in the 10.8-11.5 :1 CR (compression ratio). search for high compression frankenstein for details.

That's a stupid idea! The Ej22 heads are a step backwards from any Ej25 heads...

If one is looking to increase the CR on an early Ej25, the best solution is to get a phase II bottom end...

Redwagon,
Not a terrible idea. I ran with the cams, without the header for a month or so when I needed to get smogged. The cams definitely provide more HP gains than the headers do, and if you can do the install yourself, they will be cheaper...
