Default I think theres a Fraggle in my car

Fraggles are cool and all but I dont like them messing with my car.

I have a 1998 2.2 Impreza wagon.

Sometimes (about 50% of the time) it starts fine, no check engine light on

Sometimes It hesitates to start, still cranks and everything then the check engine light comes on and I smell fuel.

Sometimes it takes up to 10 minutes to start and then I have to punch it, usually after I run it and turn it off to put gas in or something. It makes me a sad panda when it does this.

I have been having this problem for a few weeks, I just replaced the plugs and wires 2 days ago and have checked the vacum lines.

Get your code pulled. Usually mexicans can do this with the proper machine.

Fuel Filter-change it
Fuel sock on fuel pump- pull it out and clean it
Clogged injectors- run a tank of injector cleaner through there

OT: Still have any interest in selling off your Stromung? never heard back on your FS on pirates...

you should still get the CEL checked. Your car will store the code even though it has gone off...

What he said

Fuel Filter and 5 cannisters of Injector cleaner will probably remove the gremlins...and is easy to do.

It is my understanding that Techron is the best cleaner to go with.

At 160K, if you are not going to the injector cleaning service...then I would recommend putting a cannister of techron in the tank over the next 4-5 fillups.

I have 185K on my car and I just put 2 cannisters of Techron in the same tank of gas....and this after I did the injector service on it yesterday.

The car is continually running better....so it is apparant that each treatment is continuing to clean out the fuel injectors. I forgot how fun these cars are to drive when they are running correctly.

I don't know .... I am knew to this myself

But If the Injection cleaner took care of your CEL..and your car is running better..then perhaps you should start out by doing it every time you change the oil ?

And if CEL's start popping up again.....or.....you start noticing poorer acceleration....then you can do it on a more regular basis.

But I would go ahead and give is a heavy dosage on the front end by putting several cannisters in over the next few fillups....that way you are really cleaning out the injectors after not running any cleaner through them for the last 80K miles.

Did you have the code pulled yet? If not, then we can advise you to do a million things that may or may not work. But if you would get the code pulled, we could really narrow down the options.

If there is a fraggle in your car, you should direct all your questions to the trash heap.

i think maybe, if you cant find the fraggle, then check your filters. one time i had a tiny little unicorn poking holes in my muffler and pooping in my filters.
i mean, who would've guessed a tiny mythalogical animal pooping in my filters?

You need a new camshaft position sensor. It's as simple as that. It's located on the driver's side head. Easy to replace. I think it's just one bolt and a electrical connector. That should take care of your CEL.

are sensors there just to tell you they're bad and not indicate something else is wrong? could the camshaft actually be in the wrong position?
