Default Cold air intake ????

So i was thinking and had an idea about cold air intakes. Something that concerns me with them is the filter being in the fender wall and sucking up water if you hit a large puddle. I have actually had this happen to me with before thus the reason i no longer have one. but intead of using the cone filter you normally get with a CAI and using the air box and a drop in filter and simply run piping into the fender wall but not to deep into the fender wall. would it be bad not to have anything at the end of the piping or would this method of setting a cai up work? any negative sides to doing it like this? thanks in advanced for your responces and i suspect i'll get flamed for some reason or another but oh well. thanks all.

the width and the length of the cai have a major role to play in how much hp or tq increase you can get out of it..the companies who produce these cai's put a lot of time and research into the development into the cai...you using your own piping wont work...if your worried about water ingestion into the engine..i forget who (cobb me thinks!)... makes a bypass valve to resolve this specific problem..look into that if your worried..

I had an Injen CAI on my 03 Acura RSX Type S. Never had any problems with hydrolock (water getting sucked in thru CAI). The only way this could happen is if the front end of your car is submerged in water. Rain and puddles don't make this happen.
