Default stock EJ25 and stock EJ18 crank pullies swappable?

I have a '98 Legacy Outback wagon w/DOHC EJ25 that needs a crank pulley and bolt.

I also have a '93 Impreza 1.8 liter engine that threw a rod through the block two years ago

My question is whether or not the EJ18 crank pully/bolt from my blown engine will swap right over to the EJ25. Based on a search, it appears that all aftermarket EJ25 lightweight pullies swap onto the EJ18, but I couldn't find a definitive answer on this subject. Also, any idea if I'd need new accessory belts? I'd guess not, as the adjustments screws for the belts seem to allow a significant amount of "adjustment"

Also, if for some reason this is not a good idea due to possible differences in the weights of the pullies, etc, I'd be interested in input, although I'm not as concerned about minor weight differences between the two.

Thanks!

They'll interchange with no problem. Just be careful of the 'woodruff key' that people manage to break when installing pulleys.

Woodruff key? Could you elaborate?

I can elaborate for him. When you remove the crank pulley you'll see that it has a slot in it on it's inner diameter surface. This is called a keyway. Upon further investigation you'll see that there is a male counterpart for this keyway in the snout of the crankshaft. This is called a woodruff key. It is semicircular in shape and it fits into a concave groove on the crankshaft. On occasion, during removal of the crank pulley the woodruff key can become uneven in the groove and hamper reinstallation of the crank pulley. The outer face of key should set in the keyway parallel with the surface of the crank. When this is not the case and you proceed to install the pulley and torque the bolt you have ruined the key and possibly both the keyway(crank) and pulley.

Be sure to check that the woodruff key is in it's grove properly and you should have no problems installing your crank pulley.

Good luck.
