Default Powerchip light

I would ask this in the engine management forum, but i feel that probably more ProECM powerchip users are here...therefore:

Application MY98 2.2L - Powerchip light comes on only during engine cranking. Is this typical, or should the light be on always? Thanks!

BTW - with the chip installed, I'd like to add that there is a noticable improvement off the line, smoother, and with no bogging. But, CEL is on too.
