Default Stock 16's and 225 50 16 tires

Well, I need new tires. Again. I had some Yoko ES100's and ruined them at the track. I crawled home with the cords showing on one tire. I have put the old original tires back on and want to upgrade. I am not buying new rims, and I want to go to a wider tire, but safely. I am looking at some Falken 512's or similar, in a 225/50/16. According to one web site that sells these tires, the minimum rim width is 6 inches, max is 8 inches. I should be o.k., right? Any feedback greatly appreciated.

Yeah, you should to be okay with 225/50R16 -- at least that's what I've been assured since I'll be buying new tired later this year.

One thought, though: if you intend to track your car, then you'll probably need something better than the Falken Ziex Ze 512s, which are all-seasons. From what I know of LA, you can probably get by with a good set of summer tires, unless you're taking trips to the mountains for skiing. Optimally, you would want a set of wheels and tires for the street and a set for the track. (But you said you are staying with one set of wheels.) The gurus here ought to be able to recommend to you a good tire for both street and track use.

(Edit: Corrected a blatant spelling/grammar mistake.)

You'll be fine, the OEM wheels are 6.5" wide.

Though if you want to track your car on a regular basis, a second set of wheels & tires is highly recommended.
