Delta cams for the 2.2, anybody used them?
they told me they have a 260 and a 272 grind for the ej22 n/a.
i'm trying to decide which would be better for my daily driver. the setup is: ej25 block, ej22 dual port heads (yeilding ~11:1 compression), *edit: ported/polished heads delta cams, borla headers, exhaust, intake, lightweight pulley. i'd like it to be as powerful as possible but still be usable in the low end. the car has a 6K rev limit so i dont want the 272's if they arent going to make power till 4.5K or something. anyone have any expirience with either? p.s., are the ej18 cams the same? i have a spare set and can i send them in to get reground them drop them in the ej22?

I ran almost that exact setup with the 260s. There is a noticable bump in usable mid-range torque. Buy them, they offer a good bang for the buck. Delta seems to be a good company to deal with. Installing cams in the SOHC heads with the HLAs is a breeze. Make sure to bleed the HLAs while you have the rocker arm assembly removed.
The EJ18 cams are slightly different, but I can't remember the numbers off the top of my head. |

i'm definetly going to get one of them, i just cant decide if i should get the 260s or 272's. i'm wondering if the 272's might be too aggressive for a daily driver.
what did you think of your setup? anything you would have done differently? |

Having helped to build Diz's car and having had a fair bit of seat time in it, I would stick with the 260's. The only way you really could use the 272's was #1 if you were able to bump the stock redline AND #2 if you have the heads ported out. For a while Diz had a 7000rpm redline, and the engine seemed to run out of air around 6300-6400rpm. The heads just don't breathe enough to make power any higher...

I'd go with the 260's. Delta is a great company with good customer service, i run their cams in my turbo legacy.

actually i did forget to mention i'll be doing a mild port/polish/smooth job on the ej22 heads although i dont plan on any ecu work that will raise the redline.
if i do get managment later that can raise redline, can the heads/block handle it or would i have to do springs/retainers or something? |

I second that. A mild PnP won't do it. Only a professional max porting would really do anything for you.
Also, I forgot to mention last night that you can use Ej18 cams in those heads if you also use the roller rockers from the EJ18. The roller rockers bolt right up. I honestly think this may be a superior valvetrain design and would consider doing it. I won't have any feedback for a few months yet, but I am helping a guy put together a rally-x engine that is going to use the Ej18 components in his Ej22e. I will report back how it works for him... |

i'm trying to stay away from too much of a port just so that i dont shift the power band too high. it looks like i'll be going with the 260's, but i'll also call delta and see of they have any input on the subject. thanks.
