Replacing belts and misc tune up stuff
I need to replace my timing belt.. it's been about 120k miles... I noticed I have one more belt running too.. is it the AC or PS? I was wondering should I just get some pep boys timing belt or genuine Subie parts for it? It's a 97 Impreza Outback Sport....
Also, when I'm at a light, my idle seems fine but the car shakes like crazy and I hear a CLICK (sort of like a compressor or something turning off) and the car stops shaking. I first thought it was a tranny or motor mount.... but that doesn't explain why it would suddenly go away after I hear a click (idle is always the same). I wonder if it's the timing belt... I do have a check engine.. so possibly misfire? I've been so busy to check my plugs... but could that be a possibility? Sorry for the noobish question.. still pretty new to all of this. Thanks

The click could be the AC compressor. If you have your car on defrost that usually turns it on.

You cant go wrong with genuine Subaru Parts.
For the Click .. try it with the AC on and the AC off and see what happens -Mark |

I thought at first it was the AC too.. but it doesn't seem like that's the problem. I'm throwing a CEL, so I'll just go to pep boys and borrow a code reader or something.. and see what's wrong... in the mean time, any other suggestions?

You won't be able to see the timing belt as it has covers. I don't know what the belt setup on your car is but I would guess that it has two serpentine belts.
