What the heck...
I thought Starting the car with the trottle at 100% the ECU tells the Fuel injectors not to flow fuel, in my case this morning the car gave a little afterfire and started up.

Never do that again. ONly old ladys in crown vics are allowed to start their car with full throttle, revving it to the sky with a cold engine.

Ahh it works on the 03 Forester.
It's a ECU Set program to not allow the engine to throw fuel in thje engine in case you flood the engine. Read up about it. My 1995 does not have it the 2003 Forster does. It just cranks but does not start. |

Why would I want to read up on it? I'm smart enough A. not to flood my engine in the first place and B. Not to put my foot on the floor on a cold engine. What possessed you to try this? So incredibly bad for your car.

Because I wanted to know if All ECU had it but it seems dependent on Model years.

I hear maple syrup works great as motor oil.

Seriously, the post makes sense in a situation where the car won't start on its own. Would also work if you want to crank the engine without starting it after an oil change to prime the oiling system. I'll have to try this on my 98 and the 04 WRX and see if it works on them. |

Bad idea. Oil pump spins faster and at higher pressure with the engine RUNNING. After an oil change you want your engine started to get the oil circulating as quickly as possible.
This is an issue that polarizes engine builders. Some say to crank a brand new engine without starting to get oil through the system before starting, others say to fire it up to get the oil pressure as high as possible and get the oil actually circulating. My take is, on a new engine, if your builder didn't coat everything with a liberal shot of assembly lube/motor oil when he built the engine, you need a new builder. And on an oil change, your pre-change oil is still on the bearings and such and you want it pumped out of there and replaced with fresh oil ASAP, so start the thing up. |
